Kodagu is Karnataka's hilly district which is commonly referred as Coorg. This hill district is part of Western Ghat and it comprises an area of 4102 sq. Km. It is situated approximately 257 km distant from state capital, Bangalore. Madikeri is the major town of Coorg and also the district headquarter. Virajpet, Kushalanagara and Somwarpet are some other prominent cities of the Kodagu. Coorg District consists of the three talukas namely Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet.
Coorg District is predominantly rural and its economy is predominantly based on agriculture, plantations, forestry and Tourism. This area is renowned for the products of coffee and it is a key role of district economy. Nowadays, tourism related businesses are also other chief sources of revenue by the locals. Coorg is a beautiful hill station for the tourists where you can see many nice waterfalls, Tea & Coffee plantations, Wildlife, Mountain ranges and beautiful site scenes including plenty of religious sites.
Coorg's climatic features are pleasant all year round, particularly during summer. Summer (March to mid-June) average temp is 26 oC. Annual average rainfalls of the district along with the Monsoons (mid-June to September) total around 310 cm. And then the winter (late-November to February) is very chilly when average temperatures remain around 15oC. Some higher hilly area it is below 0oC during winter.
